As an active member of the Federation of Fire Chaplains, you are also automatically enrolled in the Federation of Fire Chaplains Training Institute. The Institute provides training for fire chaplains and tracks training records of FFC members.
Basic and Advanced Certificates of Training are available through the Institute. We will also keep your training record up to date for future awards and recognition.
FFC encourages all of our members to keep up on training and stay current in ministry. Fill out your Institute Application and training record today. If you have previously filled out the application, no need to do it again — just send a Training Update Form along with any additional certificates. They will be added to your file.

FFC is not a credentialing agency and does not certify ability or performance. FFC Training certificates acknowledge fire chaplain training attendance and investment in education.
The Essentials of Fire Chaplaincy consists of sixteen hours of chaplaincy training covering: Foundations, Personhood of the Chaplain, Beginning a Fire Chaplaincy Program, Ministry to Firefighters, Assisting those in Crisis, Chaplain Code of Conduct and Ethics, the Chaplain’s Response, On-Scene Operations, Incident Management, Stress Management, Firefighter Injury and Line of Duty Death, and Fire Service Funerals.
To receive this certificate, classes must be taught by qualified Federation of Fire Chaplains Instructors.
Basic Certificate classes are currently offered in person only. The full course is available each year at the FFC Annual Conference and is also offered in part or in full throughout the year by certified FFC Instructors in various regions across the U.S.
Those who have completed the Basic Certificate may pursue the Advanced Studies Certificate. Applicants must have at least five years of chaplaincy experience and complete 130 hours of approved coursework. (Note: The 16 hours of Essentials does not count toward this total.) Courses may include: Stress Management, Pastoral Care, Crisis Intervention, Grief, Disaster Chaplaincy, Firefighter Funerals, Resilience, Suicide, and Moral Injury.
This certificate reflects a significant commitment to growth and service.

Advanced certificates require FFC Membership and an active file with the FFC Institute. Advanced courses are available annually at the FFC Conference and at select regional events. Required courses are listed in the application packet. Participants may tailor additional coursework to meet personal and regional needs.
