The Essentials of Fire Chaplaincy is a foundational training course for the fire department chaplain. This is a two-day course, hosted by Public Safety Chaplaincy, to be held on a Friday and Saturday.

This course is the basic course by the Federation of Fire Chaplains and is a requirement for membership in the Federation of Fire Chaplains. This course provides an opportunity for everyone - experienced chaplains and new chaplains alike - to understand the fundamentals of fire chaplaincy. The class consists of 16 hours of instruction, over the course of two consecutive days, covering the following areas:

• History of Chaplaincy
• Personhood of the Chaplain
• Ministry to Crisis Victims
• Ministry to Fire Personnel
• Stress Management
• Confidentiality & Professionalism
• Introduction to Incident Command
• Fire Chaplain Safety
• Firefighter Injury and Death
• Fire Department Funerals
