ASSISTING INDIVIDUALS IN CRISIS
A 2-DAY SEMINAR FOR CHAPLAINS, CLERGY, FIREFIGHTERS, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, MILITARY PERSONNEL, AND MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
AUGUST 27 & 28, 2018, IN BEAVERCREEK, OHIO
Sponsored by the Beavercreek Township Fire Department Auxiliary and Hawker United Church of Christ
There’s a growing concern – among first responders, in the military, in faith communities, and in business – about behavioral health issues and their impact on wellness. The potentially traumatic events we witness in our own lives, in the course of helping others, and on TV and the internet, can have a cumulative impact on our mental health and well-being. Fortunately, trained individuals helping other individuals has been demonstrated to be an effective method for providing support when the going gets tough.
“Assisting Individuals in Crisis” from the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation is designed to teach you the fundamentals of, and a specific protocol for, individual crisis intervention. This course is designed for anyone who desires to increase their knowledge of one-on-one crisis intervention techniques in the fields of Business & Industry, Crisis Intervention, Disaster Response, Emergency Services, Employee Assistance, Healthcare, Homeland Security, Mental Health, Military, Spiritual Care, and Traumatic Stress.
Program Highlights include:
· Psychological crisis and psychological crisis intervention
· The resistance, resiliency, recovery continuum
· Evidence-based practices that work
· Basic crisis communication techniques
· Common psychological and behavioral crisis reactions
· Putative and empirically-derived mechanisms
· Risks of iatrogenic “harm”
